A woman has human nails growing out of her own hair follicles. The mysterous disease has doctors baffled and has landed Shanya Isom in the hospital.
According to Fox News, "Shanyna Isom, 28, from Memphis, Tenn., said the bizarre condition began three years ago after she suffered from a severe allergic reaction to steroids. Meant to treat her asthma, the steroids instead caused her to start itching all over within hours, and black bumps began to cover her legs."
The condition must be very painful, and worse yet, expensive. Poor woman has mounted up $250,000 in medical bills, and as yet, doctors do not know the cause of the mysterious disease.
If you have ever had an ingrown hair, you know how painful it can be. So imagine a hair follicle with nails growing out of it all over your body. If it were the steroid that caused the condition, shouldn't doctors warn us of the dangers of steroids.
If you have ever been prescribed steroids, you may know that they make you feel ill, but what they did to this young woman, may be the worst.

I have been taking them every day for almost 23 years - starting at several hundred milligrams, and been trying to wean off of them ever since. I am now at 10 mg/day.
Most people gain huge amounts of weight, I did not.
Many have huge mood swings; full blown depression to rage - and no sign of manic.
I had that one at 80 mg, and still fight (and treat) depression.
It can be hard on many organs; it caused my gall bladder to fail, but thankfully no others yet.
In some it causes incredibly erratic sleep patterns I sure have that one.
I have had many weird reactions at times, which typically go away.
But without them, I would be dead within 6 months.
As with any med - reactions will vary, may be extreme.
This poor lady certainly has that!
That 1 in a google chance of a reaction...................?
When my skin was permanently thinned by steroids, the doc pulled out a paper I had signed that gave all of the possible side effects. Thinning of skin was one of them.
Noticeable is that, busn men, in Africa, Namibia, the cradle of the most evolved apes we are, had 85 different genes protecting us against epidemics and other diseases. This took place about 1.9 million years ago.
At that period we found that Namibian people were really diversidied before spreading all around the world at a rate of about 2/3 of a mile per year.
Making this very long history short, among all the human beings presently on Earth, the genes difference has been reduced to only 20. The figures are impressive as, if we were able to develop in full lines and connect then end to end all the genes we have, the line would reach some 800,000 miles long.
Our specie will disappear from here in about 500 to 600,000 years from now and a new specie will appear, maybe far more intelligent than us. We are already using a maximum of 10% of our brains (usually about 4 to 6%) and, IMO, next specie will be using about 15 to 20% of it.
How awful.
There are lots of meds that cause unknown or known reactions and nobody will accept responsibility. Hopefully people consider well before signing.
It is sad when the problem is so bad they think it's worth the chance and then they lose.
I hate for them to suffer but Dr's can't afford to back those meds themselves. Nobody owes us to know more than they know. Many meds still have unknown side effects. Giving us a choice is the right thing to do.
