The 2012 Summer Olympic basketball results featured no upsets but did offer some great competition as the Olympics head into the home stretch. Following these games, four teams went home while four remain, to battle for three medals.
Here is a look at the results of the
Olympic basketball games from the men's quarterfinals.
United States beat Australia: Australia played a close, solid game through three quarters of action. However, Los Angeles Lakers' star Kobe Bryant turned up the heat in the second half and Team USA pulled off a 119-86 win over Australia. Team USA outscored Australia, 35-16, in the fourth quarter with Bryant scoring 20. LeBron James scored a triple-double, with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists.
Spain beat France: Spain came into the quarterfinals with a two-game losing streak, dropping to third place in their own group. However, Spain rebounded and beat France, 66-59. Marc Gasol was the leading scorer with 14 points while his brother Pau finished with a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Russia beat Lithuania: Russia is the surprise team in the Olympic basketball competition. After beating both Spain and Brazil in group play, they came into the quarterfinals ranked second and knocked off Lithuania, 83-74. NBA star Andrei Kirilenko led the way with a double-double, 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Argentina beat Brazil: Brazil beat Spain in group play but couldn't continue their streak in the quarterfinals, falling to a very strong Argentina team in the August 8 Olympic basketball results. Argentina won the game, 82-77, with Manu Ginobili leading the team with 16 points. Next up for Argentina is a rematch with Team USA in the semifinals.
The semifinals take place on Friday, August 10.
