As many of your know from conversations we have had I'm on disability. About 2 years ago when I moved to 'the city' there was a mix up between the welfare office and the medicaid office so that I have been paying about $99.99 out of my disability check to pay for my medicare premiums. That's a huge chunk when you are on a fixed income of $842.00 a month in the first place. I was barely eeking out enough for my rent, and during the Summer months I have to pay extra to run my AC. Then when other emergancies arise I'm just left screwed.
Last year I went to the welfare office to apply for QMB so that they would not have to take that money out of my disability check. But, I was out of my head on and off the past year, so when I found out I qualifide I thought that was enough and they were still taking the money out of my checks. Finally yesterday I felt enough was enough and I called the welfare office, they sent me to the regional medicaid office, who sent me to the state medicaid office. Finally they fixed the glitch there. So, my next check will be for the full amount. On top of that I get refunded all the money I have spent for the past year that I should never have spent.
Coming out of having to replace a tire on my car, and needing ahem, car insurance, this is a much needed break for me.
