Just Some Fractal Fiddling

As most of you know, I just can't stop fiddling with fractals. So, here's one of my stories, and I'm sticking with it!

Start with an image generated with Chaos Pro.

Despeckle it some, smooth the color gradients, then rotate it so it fits better within the display limitations of this website.

Then fiddle with the colors and gradients some more to see if I can add a bit of depth to it.

Fiddle with the colors and color gradients yet again!

And then fiddle with it some more, increasing the stepped color gradients.

And there you have it. Pick your favorite!

This looks a lot like the Mandlebrot fractals. What do you do to make them 3-dimensional?

Yep, it's from the Mandelbrot set alright! All these are "flat" fractal images, but you can get a bit of depth perception with simple coloring choices. The particular program I used for these doesn't render in 3D. But it's mostly a matter of adding lighting angle components and getting a program to render the surfaces in different proportions. Layering plays a big part too. But I use a different program for better 3D effects. I prefer Incendia for those times because it does most of the work for me. :-)
