The London Olympics 2012 schedule continues on August 2nd, with more of the Women's Beach Volleyball action live online and on television. The duo of Misty May Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings continue to remain unbeaten in their all-time appearances. However, another streak they had going was snapped on Wednesday.
The next Olympics live stream and televised games for women's volleyball start on 8/2 at 12 p.m. EST. It will be a day off for May-Treanor and Walsh-Jennings, with Italy taking on Canada, and Great Britain taking on Russia at 3:30 p.m. EST. On Wednesday night, the popular women's duo of Misty and Kerri defeated Austria, which extended their all-time Olympics unbeaten streak.
Despite that, there was another streak broken, and that happened when the team lost their first set in three Olympics. Austria won the opening round 21-17, which stoked the competitive fires of Misty and Kerri. The duo stormed back to win their next set 21 to 8, and the third 15 to 10.
According to the NBC Olympics site, Walsh Jennings said of losing that first set:
"I was furious. It's still with me. I want to go to the practice court and fix it."
She'll hopefully have put that behind her when their next game starts up. That next game will be the knockout round, where Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh will be a #1 seed. They'll play again at some point on Friday, August 3rd, as there are games scheduled from 4 a.m. EST through 1 p.m. EST for the women's round of 16. Their opponents will be determined via draw on Thursday evening. As May-Treanor said, "Now it's a whole new tournament."
Based on the streak of Olympics wins that these two players have, you have to think most other teams have put the bullseye on their backs. However, Misty May and Kerri Walsh certainly seem in a position to take the gold once again.
Have you been following the women's beach volleyball games at the London Olympics? Do you think Misty and Kerri are in prime position to win gold again, or are they in danger of an upset this time?
