Mr Walker, "Because conservatives are scrooges, the good folks at Americans for Tax Reform have gone through the fine print to find out what our Olympians will have to cough up to the IRS should they be lucky"
Me, "Because liberals are power hungry."
Thanks for the info anyway :)
It's like putting a death tax on people. Where did the government get the idea they were owed such a large amount of our money?
They are in error in taking such large amounts, and they are in error in running so many departments that aren't their responsibility.
I can complain, but I don't know how to change it :)
Thanks again for posting Walker. (I know you better now so I can call you by your first name :)
What country does that to its medal winners? Words actually fail me.
Up to 5th place now in the medal tables and its not over yet. Must say though that after the games a good look at what the Chinese are up to is in order because no country that was so useless at any sport does not suddenly come good as this lot are doing. They are breaking records that they should not be breaking.
I'm always totally convinced I didn't make any mistakes this time even though I know I skip sentences and reverse words. Somehow I feel like "This time I didn't." & I usually take my word for it and then have to repost it :)
Graham, do they charge you all a death tax when you die? That seems like the tackiest thing I ever heard. I'm not sure when ours kicked in ... but I never paid one for my Mom a couple of years ago.
I guess I should look it up :)
Did it.
Wikipedia "Political use of "death tax" as a synonym for "estate tax" was encouraged by Jack Faris of the National Federation of Independent Business[47] during the Speakership of Newt Gingrich." In America.
That sounds like a version of the French national symbol Marianne. She is a post revolution figure representing the free spirit of the French popular (rather than political) nation. A bit like Britannia for us and MMe. Liberty for Americans.
The I in my name is igreque, Ian is a scottish name derived from the scandinavian Jan and pronounced Ee-an. So really I am named John but isn't every Tom Dick and Harry?
no they don't tax us after we die, how would they prosecute a cadaver for non payment, (I'd love to be in court for the hearing LOL.) They do tax our estate so our heirs must stump up.
It is good to see it live. I always enjoy the rowing which I loved at school - yes I did go to that kind of school (blush) - I was always too short to get on the teams but did quite well in the single sculls.
I'm glad it is turning out well, at one point it was starting to look as if we had spent all those billions for the sake of inflating a few elitists egos.
Most estates in the UK will not have to pay this tax as the the person overseeing the estate has to value the estate adding up for instance the value of your home and any money that the deceased had along with all possessions then deducting any debts that are owed along with household bills and funeral expenses.
And there are certain legal ways to get around paying that tax as well, as an example you can leave your estate to your spouse and now civil partner as long as they reside in the UK.
Another legal dodge is to leave a certain amount to any charitable organization in your will.
As also is leaving a gift of money to someone who is getting married up to a certain amount of course.
Tax is a complected affair in any body's language.
All we had at my school was football (soccer) we did not even have Rugby, we did do a little Cricket and the girls did a bit of netball and that was it.
Island of thieves does sound romantic. It sounds like the kind of place I would expect to run into Cap'n Jack Sparrow and his crew.
We have many variations on the John theme, Eoin (pron Owen) and Eoghan as well as Sean from Ireland and Scotland, Iain from west Scotland, Ioan, Ifan, Owen and Evan from Wales and even one close to my version from The Isle of Man, Ean. And that's only a selection.
At the moment I'm writing a story of a love affair between a successful business executive and a girl who from a gypsy family (not so much the wrong side of the tracks are there aren't any tracks). Gypsies in Europe have faced not racism and more violent persecution than any other minority.
Telling the story by having each recount their perception of events is fun because there are two very different styles to jump between. It made me decide to write something on "The writer as actor, the reader as cinematographer" for Writing Essentials.
When I need a reader for the story prior to publishing I'll give you a call. :-)
It's really not that hard to do a little fact checking. This has already been shown to be mostly false. It's something concocted by a lobbyist to distract from the fact that Mitt Romney has been hiding his tax returns and has paid essentially no taxes relative to the 99% of us normal people.
But you don't care that it's false. Because nearly everything the tea party says is false.
It's part of our philosophy that you guys don't like but is important to us.
If the BBC (not an organisation noted for being sympateticf to the tea party) reports a story then it probabnly has some substance.
Really? Then why do you continue to say something you know to be false?
The rest of your comment is incomprehensible.
Given that you have a history of making up most of what you say, your statement has very little meaning. And I see you're still stuck on your crutch of tossing out the word "solipsist." You do realize it just emphasizes your continued pathetic need to present yourself as more refined than is clearly the case.
Do not address me further.
Such as . . . ?
David, "But you don't care that it's false. Because nearly everything the tea party says is false."
Give me an example. What are they saying that is untrue. & I don't mean one thing that some Democrat said they said. But something that's in writing or on a tape.
As for your ludricrous suggestion that I try to present myself as refined, I am on record as having admitted I have been round the block more times that the postman's boots. In fact people who take the trouble to know me would tell you the very last thing I am is refined. But then my using words like solipsist is not a sign of refinement, what a stupid conclusion to jump to.
Your contiunued attempts to command me when you know there is no chance that I will ever take the slightest bit of notice show just what a solipsist you are. I will address you whenever I wish. All you neeed do to make it not worth my while is not respond.
If you really do not want me to address you further however, the remedy lies in your own hands. Do not let me see any more of your idiotic comments in which you pretend that merely shouting that a thing is untrue is an adequate rebuttal of somebody else's point. It may be so in your solipsistic little world view but only there.
And Davey - babe, I know the thing about me that most irks you is I do not take you seriously. Just stop taking yourself so seriously and you've solved half the problem.
It's a crutch you use when you are making stuff up. Kind of like a "tell" in poker. You have a tendency to toss it out when you've got nothing. Which is usually. And, for that matter, is 5 times in your short blathering contribution to this post.
If you really do not want me to address you further however, the remedy lies in your own hands. Do not let me see any more of your idiotic comments in which you pretend that merely shouting that a thing is untrue is an adequate rebuttal of somebody else's point.
You responded to my comment, remember. And you came here to do what you always do - to insult me.
And Davey - babe,
Using diminutives is another "tell" for an infantile and insecure commenter. It's a trick people with inferiority complexes use to make themselves appear bigger, or smarter, or more masculine. It's also rather obvious.
Do not address me further.
Yeah, like that, right?
You embarrass yourself and your country.
I'm addres sing you. What are you going to do about it? You really are such a clown, you make it obvious my using solipsist really annoys you so I use it gratuitously and it never fails to wind you up.
And I came to this thread to look at commnents by a couple of my friends and found you trying to bully them. What do you expect me to do, a gentleman stands by his friends. And I am a gentleman David, the Royal College Of Arms has records to prove it.
Using diminutives to address you Davey-boy is not a tell, it's a comment on how infantile you are (Or it might just be showboating to a number of my friends I alert by PM to our encounters. )
You insult yourself Dave, and our intelligence.
So, you admit being a jerk. Good for you.
you make it obvious my using solipsist really annoys you so I use it gratuitously and it never fails to wind you up.
See, you lied again. You know for a fact that I rarely engage you, mainly because I've seen your history of making things up, and as you note above, being an inconsequential jerk. You also know for a fact that you toss out the solipsist incessantly - dozens, perhaps even hundreds of times - on this venue. And 95% of those times I'm nowhere around, so your statement that you only use it gratuitously "to wind me up" is a bald-faced lie.
As noted previously, the word is your "tell," your crutch, your Pavlovian self-drool bell you use to make believe you aren't inconsequential. It's really rather obvious for anyone who has seen you on this venue. That and the fact that you make a lot of stuff up.
And I came to this thread to look at commnents by a couple of my friends and found you trying to bully them.
See, you made that up too. You left a reply to my independent comment specifically to insult me. Something you do routinely. Probably because your puerile ego can't handle the fact that I know you are a BSer with a propensity to make things up.
What do you expect me to do, a gentleman stands by his friends.
Bull. You saw my comment and decided to boost your own ego by attacking me.
And I am a gentleman David, the Royal College Of Arms has records to prove it.
Wow. Talk about ego. Thanks for proving my point. Again.
Using diminutives to address you Davey-boy is not a tell, it's a comment on how infantile you are
Actually, it reflects poorly on your maturity besides being a tell for your mental insecurity.
(Or it might just be showboating to a number of my friends I alert by PM to our encounters. )
Wow again. So either:
1) Your ego is so infantile that you need to "alert your friends," and "showboat" your once in a blue moon "encounters" (that only occur when I deem to give you my time, i.e., when I am both incredibly bored and want to allow you the rope to metaphorically hang yourself with), or
2) You don't have too many friends that see fit to comment about your prowess as a blowhard (given that no one outside of Graham even showed up, and Graham is one of those follower types that has latched onto a few people who dutifully massage his...ego).
You insult yourself Dave, and our intelligence.
I'll leave it to others to make a determination on the former, and the latter is more a function of your own commenting than anything I've done.
Need more rope?
Me, Such as . . . ?
David, "But you don't care that it's false. Because nearly everything the tea party says is false."
Give me an example.
I don't think you will be able to think of anything the main people in the Tea Party say that is not sensible and true.
Well there's the thing about reducing taxes resulting in higher tax revenue. Then there's the Romneycare death panels.
Super Anciens Vias. The family's heraldic motto. We were raised to the gentry in the 15th century. Nothing to do with my ego, just my heritage. There were Thorpes at Azincourt and Waterloo, the Somme and el Alamain.
As for your "independent comment, what are you talking about you silly little man. All comments in a thread depoend on the main post. You yelled false false false to a post about a story that has been verified as true and tried to claim it was a "tea party" lie so I posted you a link to a reputable news organisation that being British has nothing to do with the tea Party.
As usual I am being Mr. Nice Guy and trying to help you sort yourself out.
Be honest, you crave my attention.
First truthful things you've said. You might add that you are pretty much always a jerk. That would be truthful as well.
You yelled false false false to a post about a story that has been verified as true and tried to claim it was a "tea party" lie
No, I provided a link in my initial comment showing how the post was mostly false, which you conveniently didn't bother to read before beginning your insults and lies. Remember that you came here solely to insult me when you weren't even being addressed. That reflects rather poorly on your maturity and insecurities. Which, of course, everyone has noted already.
Speaking of which, the only reason I responded to your insults at all was because I was bored, but you've devolved from being a 5-year old to being just a 2-year old and even monumental boredom can't overcome your mindless prattle.
Goodbye
Everyone? Are you sure that's true? hah-ahaha-hahahahaha
I love the girly "Goodbye" part...
Sue, where in Bloody Hell have you been???
Awww diddums.
BTW you link showed the article is mostly true. You can't even lie honestly now David.
