A Red Pair

I've been trying to get a good shot of a pair of cardinals for about a year. I see him, or I see her, or I see them together when my camera is inside. Today, I sat out back on my sittin' log for about an hour and finally got lucky! These aren't the best photographs of birds I've taken, but I was a fair distance from them. I edited in Picasa. My camera is a Sony a390 and I was using a 300mm lens.

I like the way you edited these, it makes those birds really stand out. She looks like she's giving him grief in that first one!

Thanks, Ann. I couldn't crop any more without losing detail, so the editing really enhanced these shots. She does look like she's scolding him, but I think she's waiting for a bite of his snack!

Thanks! I know what you mean. I've been watching a mama robin teaching her fledglings how to get their own worms. They're nearly as big as she is, tails are a little shorter and they have spots on their breasts. A few weeks ago I watched mom and dad make literally hundreds of trips a day from the yard to the nest under the neighbor's eaves.

I'm not surprised. Then when they fledge they end up all over the place and sometimes end up on the ground, I think they stay there a while so momma can find them then it takes them a while to try to fly again.
