Real Housewives' NeNe Leakes is in the midst of some drama once again, but this time she's not the cause of it. The reality star is set for her new role in the creator of "Glee," Ryan Murphy's, new show titled, " The New Normal," on NBC this fall. However, a group called One Million Moms has launched a campaign against the show, asking NBC to drop it from its fall line-up. This is the same group that protested JCPenney using Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson. They claim that this show will work to deteriorate the sanctity of marriage, stating the following:
"NBC is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage. These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture."
In response to this statement, and to the One Million Moms campaign, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), issued a statement as well.
"From hit shows like Glee and Modern Family, it's clear that Americans today don't care whether their favorite TV characters are straight or gay. We now live in a culture where gay people are not only a part of our society, but where gay characters are also applauded by both TV critics and audiences alike."
It seems that not only is NeNe Leakes in jeopardy of losing her spot on Real Housewives of Atlanta due to a rumored fight between her and a producer, she might also lose her new TV gig. However, NBC has not stated that they are planning to ditch the show, so NeNe will more than likely have at least one job come this fall. Whatever words you can find to describe Ms. Leakes, one thing that can be said is that she is definitely a go-getter. So, whatever happens, most likely she'll come out of it on top.
What are your thoughts? Is it right to boycott her new show?
