Iowa cousins 10-year-old Lyric Cook and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins have been missing for 10 days. They were last seen riding their bikes in the Meyers Lake area of Evansdale, Iowa. Their bikes and a purse belonging to Elizabeth were found near the lake, which has been drained to determine the girls were not in it. They have officially been listed as abducted and officers have recently said Lyric's parents are no longer cooperating with the investigation. However, today her mother agreed to take a second polygraph to show she is willing to assist in locating her missing daughter.
Tammy Brousseau, the missing girls chatty aunt, said Misty Cook-Morrissey was taking a second lie detector test at an Evansdale elementary school. She has already taken one, last week, but said she wouldn't take another, saying she had been harshly interrogated and accused of being involved in the girls disappearance.
"Because Misty did not want to do the second polygraph test at the advice of her attorney, because she didn't want to be coerced and cornered and told that she did this, there was a little bit of separation. Some of the family members felt, `OK, she's not cooperating 100 percent.' I hope that turns around now," said Brousseau. "She's doing it to show that she is cooperating 100 percent so that we can put to rest the idea that there is a family member not cooperating."
One could say that police interrogation techniques that make the parent feel like suspects are unnecessary. On the other hand, perhaps they need to treat the parents as any other suspects to get the truth. When parents start being elusive, they are bringing the suspicion on themselves. The whole truth will clear it up, whether the parents are involved or not. Clearly, if the police think the parents are being evasive, there is something they are hiding. Maybe it's not related to the disappearance, but they are hiding something and the authorities know it.
Police are currently seeking a potential witness, someone who was paddleboating on the lake near the time the girls disappeared. This person is not considered a suspect, but has not voluntarily come forward to aid in the investigation. Hopefully, this person comes forward and tells what they know. It is a big lake, so maybe they didn't see anything. But maybe they did.
The $50,000 reward being offered for information leading to the girls is still intact.
