There are times when I feel ashamed of how our way of life here in the US is sometimes usurped for a few pieces of silver. It's not that I don't appreciate our freedom... or what little of it that is left. But there are instances when you see the kind of greed and government-for-hire that gives our the democratic ideals a black eye.
This is one of them.
Out on what is oft referred to as the 'left coast' by some, there is supposedly a more compassionate, more people-aware system of state rule. Of course, it doesn't take a lot of effort to see that California has some of the most draconian environmental laws in the country. It also supports a hefty welfare roll.
But... what happens when someone comes around with a pocket full of money and wants some land already occupied by human beings? Will that more people-friendly government support those it claims as its own? Or will it take the cash and toss them under the old proverbial bus of progress?
Case in point; a small trailer park that has existed since the 1950s with people who still call it home. Just outside the fence is a wealthy developer who wants the land to build high rise apartments and condos and offices and store fronts.
Will humanity survive in Santa Monica or will the capitalist venture fund the rezoning of the land? Well, don't touch that dial!
The vote... and likely pay off, happens tomorrow!
