Shea Weber is one of the top defensive players in the NHL, but his future with Nashville is in doubt. Ryan Suter signed to play with Minnesota this summer and that has left Suter and his agents wondering if he will be moved before the start of the season.
The NY Rangers are looking to add some top defensive talent and are one team that has the pieces necessary to pry Weber from the Predators. The soon-to-be 27-year-old is looking for a long-term deal and Nashville is only looking at a short-term extension. If the two sides can't come together, the NY Rangers could pounce quickly.
The former second round draft pick has totalled 263 points in 480 career games, but his 6'4" and 232 pounds are what makes him a true enforcer on the ice. Weber is a quality offensive player as his numbers indicate, but his skating skills and physical presence would make any franchise better.
The NY Rangers are looking to challenge for a Stanley Cup title and acquiring one of the top NHL players this summer would really increase their chances for success. Weber is not officially on the trading block, but things could change quickly if Nashville doesn't start treating their top defensive player with some respect.
