On what, Sam?


Who Romney is going to pick for VP?


What are the odds?


Looks like former MN Governor Pawlenty is the favorite to get the nod.


He's safe, that's for sure but kind of boring, like Romney.


Well who do you want to see run with him?


I like Christie or old Newt.  They got fire.  Either one could give Obama hell.


You don't think it might be wise to go Rubio and get the Hispanic vote?


He'd sure as hell get that and FL, which is practically the same thing, but I don't know, he's young.


So's Obama.


What does that tell you, Sam?


Right, Obama was way too young and without experience to even let the powers that be talk him into it.  Actually, I think Jindal could probably get some of the Latinos, but I don't think the Tea Party wants someone from the deep south and we know with Romney's middle of the road, almost moderate views, he needs someone who is a true blue, conservative.


Who does that leave us?


Paul Ryan.  He sure would be my choice.  He's got good thoughts about how to fix the economy.  He is a northerner.  He's good enough looking to get some of the female votes that tend to go that way.


You being sexist Sam?  Better not let your boss here you.


Oh hell no, he's too busy worrying about how he's going to make his term look good.

Why do you think he keeps going after Romney's wealth and business acumen?


True, so true Sam.  I think it just might be Ryan.  Think we'll know before the end of the week?


Yep, Romney needs someone here to carry on the campaign while he's traveling out of the country.


Whoever it is, they better have been vetted well 'cause my boss's attack dogs will put every moment of his life through the wringer.


Well, that's pretty much the way politics works today.


Too bad, isn't.  Remember the good old days when candidates talked about what they could do for the country?

It's sad that candidates and running mate selection comes down to "who is electable" and can bring in votes. Would it be too much to expect candidates who are sincerely concerned and capable of fixing problems?

Not all that far. I'll vote for Obama, but don't expect him to get much through Congress unless we miraculously get a Democrat setup. (Joke this time around I fear).
People blame the prez for what Congress does.
Unfair, but the way it is.
As for youth, I want! The old unchanging back to their younger days gang are a good part of the problem.

Actually Sharon, he had a Democrat Congress for 2 years and did nothing much, didn't close Gitmo, increased troops in Afghanistan, raised the National debt and allowed some of his Cabinet to get away with things that other Presidents would have been called down for.
A good president, like Clinton was, knows how to work with a split congress. Right now the Dems are the majority in the Senate and the block any Bill the House tries to put through and of course the Republican House blocks also. They don't have a leader who tells them how to do the right (or left) thing.

I think Romney's only chance of winning is in nominating a woman for VP. He reeks of anti-middle class bias and would be a disaster for small business, women and the poor and would not do anything to create jobs, rather he would do the opposite and transfer more wealth to the rich. It's a long time to November but he's in big trouble because of his record with Bain capital which he may not be able to cover up. Romney raised original capital for Bain capital from crooks like Lyons in UK and mostly from Central American groups as in Panama who were involved with the C.I.A "private " companies, drug trade and money laundering. Wall St wouldn't lend to Bain so Romney took to the dark side and established foreign bank accounts, which he doesn't want revealed. It is a good bet he made "tax deals" with the Treasury and IRS to repatriate foreign bank accounts without penalties and this would show on his tax records if he releases them. And how to explain his having many millions in an IRA ? This could be a big shock to people.

The thing is there is, I expect, nothing "illegal" in getting funding as Bain did or making tax deals to repatriate foreign funds and having an IRA become so large (although when adding $5,000 yearly , it looks like a real killing on where the money was "invested"). But on the level of politics as it is today, it can be used to personally make a candidate look bad. The Swiftboating of John Kerry was done in August, and it stuck all the way to November. Romney already has an image that he doesn't care about ordinary people.

Condi Rice has been suggested and rejected. Who else has the "star" power without the stupidity of Sarah Palin? Condi is a very respected/admired woman. Honestly, I don't think she'd go for it.
