Kitty Wells and Johnny Wright were married in 1937 and truly two of the greatest stars in the music business. Yes, we are talking about country music and they spent many years performing together and with their 3 children. I'm so impressed they were married over 70 years. Sadly, Johnny passed away at 97 in 2011. Now Kitty has joined him she was 92.
In 1935 she formed a group called The Deason Sisters was her sisters and a cousin.
Kitty joined the country music hall of fame in 1976 and certainly deserved her place in history. She had many hits including her first It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels recorded in 1952. First female to make million in country music and voted #1 female 14 years in a row.
She had a contract with Decca Records from 1959-1975. In 1975, Johnny and Kitty formed their own label Ruboca Records named after their three children Ruby, Bobby and Carol Sue and were managed by son-in-law John Sturdivant. Her last top ten single was Thank You For The Roses. Personally, I think we should be thanking them for entertaining us for so many years.
One thing I didn't know Bobby was on McHale's Navy. The family performed on television many times.
I love country music and will listen to their music and know they were two of the greatest stars that I was lucky to be able to see perform many years ago.
