The ESPY Awards 2012 results are now official after Monday's award show presented by ESPN. Among the big ESPY winners this year were two of the newest heroes in sports, NFL star Tim Tebow and NBA star Jeremy Lin.
According to ESPN.com, LeBron James was among the biggest winners on the night though. While he wasn't present for the ceremony due to his Team USA basketball preparations, LeBron won Championship Performance of the Year, NBA Player of the Year, and the Male Athlete of the Year. He can now add these awards statues to his NBA championship ring and MVP award for this past season's work.
Another NBA star, Jeremy Lin, had a breakout year for most of the first half of last season with the New York Knicks. That success brought Lin the Breakthrough Athlete of the Year ESPY. The Harvard guard helped ignite a new sense of excitement in the Knicks, causing lots of interest as he became a surprise household name.
Tim Tebow had a similar season in his sport with the NFL, although he was a bit more of a known player than Lin. Tebow, who was known for his religious nature and "Tebowing" on the field to pray to God, won the Best Moment ESPY. He was given the award for his 80-yard touchdown pass thrown to Demaryius Thomas which helped Denver defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs last season.
Other ESPY Awards 2012 winners included NASCAR's Tony Stewart (Driver of the Year), Robert Griffin III (Male College Athlete), Brittney Griner (Female Athlete of the Year), and the Miami Heat who won the coveted Team of the Year ESPY. That certainly made for a huge night for LeBron and company who are still celebrating their success during the past season.
However, LeBron is certainly a huge name in sports, who carries plenty of animosity. Meanwhile, it seems that Jeremy Lin and Tim Tebow are quietly building a supportive fan base ready to see what they have in store for their sport next. Both players will try to help new teams next season in their respective sports, so it'll be fun to watch their journeys!
