Outwardly Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif seem to have little in common. Aishwarya is a former beauty queen who was welcomed with open arms into the Bollywood film fraternity, a classically trained dancer who began her career by working with some of the biggest and most critically acclaimed directors in the country.
Katrina Kaif, on the other hand, was a relative nobody, imported from the UK to work in an industry which worships light-skinned women. She had no acting talent, couldn't dance, and could barely string a sentence together in Hindi. It's taken her years to reach the level of industry clout that Aishwarya had after her first couple of films.
But what these two women do have in common is their romantic history. Both dated Salman Khan; Aishwarya fell for him while the two shot for their hit film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, while Katrina became attached to him many years later when he acted as her "uncle" of sorts in the film industry--she used her relationship with him to get roles she probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise and propelled herself to stardom with Sallu's help.
And both women, sadly, were Salman's victims. Aishwarya stated after the end of her relationship with Salman that he had verbally, physically, and emotionally abused her, and had appeared more than once in public sporting bruises. Katrina Kaif has never made such a statement about Salman Khan, but the stories are there all the same. Members of the Ek Tha Tiger crew have recently admitted to seeing Salman verbally berate Katrina and even hit her with a stick when he didn't like how revealing one of her outfits was. It isn't the first time he's done such a thing to her--witnesses have seen Salman slap Katrina Kaif on more than one occasion.
So why do women continue to date Salman? He was violent with Somy Ali, the woman he dated before Aishwarya. He was violent with Aishwarya, and everyone knew it. And yet Katrina Kaif still thought getting involved with him was a good idea? Her relationship with him is looking more and more like one of professional convenience: she dates him, he helps her get film roles. There's no other reason why any sane woman would happily dive into a relationship with a man known to be violent with his girlfriends.
