Connie was able to text for a little bit today, and I did talk to Victoria yesterday.
This is day 11 for Connie and Roger to be without power and water. Connie said Roger has dug a hole to bury all the rotten food, as it just can't sit in the frig and freezer. They've lost so much with these storms! The National Guard has brought in water and ice, so Roger went up to the fire station to pick up some. That's when he was told it may be another week before all of Webster County has their electricity fixed. That is not good at all!!!! They can't do laundry or dishes either.
Now, Roger also heard that FEMA is suppose to be coming in with some generators to be passed out to the elderly and those with medical issues. That should include Connie and Roger, but so far, nothing. It's just wait and see.
I found out that the only 'fast food' place anywhere close to them is a Subway....nothing else within an hour. Obviously, this means they do live in the middle of nowhere. I know they'll have to do some driving to find somewhere to do laundry, so gc for Wendy's or McDonald's would be good.
I've been figuring out how best to help Connie and Roger. Victoria thinks little gc for grocery stores would be nice....I know they have a Kroger, as Connie has done reviews for some of the Kroger products. I don't know if the Kroger is currently open, since the whole county is without power. They going to be running out of all the necessities soon....(and I do know they are about out of clean clothes.) I remember what it was like to have everything off for 5 days....and they are now more than double that.
I know I'm rambling.....(just so tired).
I have Connie's address....and Victoria's. Please email me here on Gather if you'd like to help, and I will send you her address directly. I'd sorta' like to keep track of the help they are getting, but I won't post it or names or anything. It's just so I can make sure they don't get too much of any one thing. Connie can't access paypal with the power off and the phone lines down, so that won't work.
I think it's great some of us can get together to help out another Gatherite....and some of you, like me, have known Connie for years.

From what I understand the power within the state is all working now. However, I know that many rural areas are not included when it comes to getting the news out.
We went up town a bit about two hours ago and the only gas station in town as well as the post office was without Internet. I feared ours would be out but it is working. Their Internet comes from a different source than ours.
Thank you so much for your prayers and thoughts. You have no idea how much that means to me. I had no idea Jax did up this post. I knew she was keeping everyone informed but she has really called out the troops.
I had no idea I had so many friends. Friends that are so important and yet I have never met.
I can also call the Kroger in her area to see if they are open.
Connie did not get a generator......they were completely gone by the time they got to the place they were being handed out.
It appears that my dear friend Jax has called in the gather troops for me.
I just love the gather community. It is a community filled with caring and supportive people.
Thank you Carol. Your card arrived today.
Yes, this is a great community.
I won't forget what you did.
Sometimes the outdoor toilets that I grew up with sound (for lack of a better word) appealing.
You know the strange thing is that I was unaware that we were so dependent on power. In winter we do fine when power is off. We heat and cook with our coal heating stove but when the temperatures hit 90 and above, a coal stove does not work to keep the home warm.
There was no gas stations. The ones that did have gas and generators were quickly out of gas. Then there is the battery. The cigarette lighter only works until your battery dies. In three weeks, you will not be able to use that socket.
I learned a lot from this power outage. We have been without power in winter and it was easier to survive than this one that hit in the 90 degree temperatures
I hate to admit this but the WE group was the last thing on my mind. I knew I had chosen a great group of dependable and honest editors. I knew it would be ok until I returned.
Thanks so much for the love (Yep, I felt it) and the prayers. :)
I am however really surprised at the friends I have on gather. I had no idea I had so many friends. Jax has rallied the troops for me, I see.
Prayers are helping. :) I am sure that the power could have been out indefinitely if prayers had not been sent up on our behalf. Thank you for the prayers. I DO appreciate it.
What a horrible ordeal to suffer in this day and age. They're thrown back to pioneer days.
You just can't get rid of me. NO matter how hard you try. :)
Thankfully the power has been restored. I thought we were prepared for emergencies but I found out we are only prepared for a winter storm not summer.
It was an ordeal but you know what? I am alive to tell about it. :)
Thank you so much for your call to "gather the troops". I had no idea you had done all this. I knew you were keeping them informed but this is way beyond what I expected.
Thank You!
I will get back later to reply to the rest of the comments on this post. I am going to turn the computer off now.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Hey there buddy! I have missed you around here. How are you doing? I have been worried about you. You are gone to have to get healthy so we can quit worrying because it is making old women of us way too fast. :)
When we were out, it was everything...
