The new Childish Gambino "Royalty" mixtape download hit the internet on July 4th for hip hop fans to enjoy. This comes as a bit of a follow up, and incredible progression from his hit solo album, "Camp," released in 2011.
According to Rap Radar, the new mixtape can be downloaded as a zip file from Gambino's website. It features a total of 18 tracks and a variety of guests. Those lyricists include the likes of RZA and Ghostface Killa from Wu-Tang Clan fame. Ironically, the hip hop star, generated his own rap moniker from a Wu-Tang Clan name generator he found online.
Other guests on the hot new mixtape include Bun B, Nipsey Hussle, Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Beck, and Tina Fey. That's right, the "30 Rock" star makes a guest appearance, as does NBA basketball star Blake Griffin, who drops a brief line on the intro track.
Childish Gambino, real name Donald Glover, released the album camp on November 15, 2011. It went as high as #11 on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts, and to #2 on the U.S. R&B/Hip-Hop charts. "Royalty" makes for his third mixtape with previous releases, "I Am Just A Rapper" and "I Am Just A Rapper 2."
Glover started out as an actor and moved into the rap genre. Yes, sounds a lot like Drake's background, but the styles are quite different. Gambino doesn't really sing or croon to the ladies, and sort of works the "odd man out" angle. However, it seems with this latest mixtape offering, Glover is certainly progressing with his style and skills. That's what most hip hop stars want these days, because it certainly can help lend itself to future album sales.
