Cillian Murphy is quite a chameleon when it comes to the characters he plays, but could the Irish actor transform into Christian Grey for Fifty Shades of Grey?
Cillian has played a transgender teen in Breakfast on Pluto; a pandemic survivor in 28 Days Later; and a terrorist in Red Eye. However, most moviegoers know him best as the Scarecrow in The Dark Knight
and Batman Begins.
It's hard to imagine the villainous Scarecrow becoming sexy seducer Christian Steele, but Cillian has this very odd ability to look both gorgeous and creepy. He definitely should be able to get the whole "fifty shades of f***ed up" thing down, and he does have icy blue eyes that could make an awkward girl like Anastasia Steele uncomfortable and weak the knees. Plus Christian is a billionaire businessman accustomed to a life of luxury, and Cillian can have an upper-class air about him - he proved this by playing the heir to a business empire in Inception.
Many of Cillian Murphy's fans are pushing for him to get the role. However, other actors like Ian Somerhalder, Alexander Skarsgard, Matt Bomer, Ryan Gosling, and Robert Pattinson also have fiercely loyal fans hoping that they get the part. And unlike Ian and Alexander, Cillian isn't actively campaigning for the part just yet.
According to Independent Woman, here's what he said about Fifty Shades of Grey:
"I haven't read the book. I know everyone's talking about it. The thing is, it's kind of random how you get jobs, you know?"
He also said that he would read the script for the movie to see if he's interested in the part.
Cillian Murphy seems to enjoy trying new things based on the wide array of roles he's played, so he probably wouldn't have a problem playing a sadomasochist with a Red Room of Pain.
He might be a little too old for the role at age 36, but Christian Grey is a character who seems a lot older than his 27 years because of a dark past that made him grow up fast.
So what do you think - is Cillian another good option for Fifty Shades of Grey, or is he completely wrong for the role?

2) that said, all the brouhaha abou 50 Shades is a tad ridiculous. We're talking about a gigantic actor here. He may be a cute little thing, but he's got the heart of a true Thespian. He's just completed a triumphant run on stage, in a play by Tony winner Enda Walsh. He was directed among others by Neil Jordan, Chris Nolan, Ken Loach, Wes Craven and Danny Boyle. He's a very smart man, he reads poetry for charity, he's a fan of good literature. Why in Thor's name should he play...Christian Grey? Not to be unrespectful, but it doesn't look like anything he would care to read. He politely said he would read a script, that's the customary nice reply....but I don't think such a script would meet his approval, let alone him "campaigning for the part" (he "campaigned" to get a role in Ken Loach's movie, though....) As for all his "fans" who would love to see him in 50 Shades....where are they? I only read horrified comments...
Anyway, if he decides to accept this film, it probably means I'm wrong and the novel is a misunderstood masterpiece. And I'd watch it if he was in it, just to understand why. However, I wouldn't hurry booking my midnight showing already.
