Oreo's Rainbow Cookie Causes Stir; Boycott Efforts Ensue

By now you've all probably heard about the rainbow Oreo cookie that Oreo posted on

their Facebook. It was a photoshopped cookie made in time for gay pride day. The cookie has prompted mixed views from those who have seen it. Some wish that the cookie was real and would be an actual physical product to be bought. Others are disgusted at the idea of Oreo supporting gay pride day.

The latter view has prompted the group "One Million Moms" to attempt to boycott the cookie, but will it work? Judging from the comments in the article, it seems not to be working too terribly well. Many are instead saying that they will be buying the cookies to show their support of equal rights.

Where do you stand on the cookie's message? Are you one that will boycott them or are you one that will be going out to buy a package and show your support?

I am sure many will boycott them as when they did back when they realized nabisco and Phillip morris were in it together as well as proctor and gamble with it's dark past. I think consumers have to make the choice for themselves. I might not support being gay, but that won't make me give up eating oreos, or being friends with friends who are gay. I can have it both ways and eat my cookies too.

I agree, Pamela. You don't have to agree with it, but to boycott them seems a bit extreme. Besides, if you boycotted them because of their gay support, you'd have to boycott many other products including Ford, JcPenny, Old Navy airlines, Microsoft and more. Why stop at just Oreos if they are so determined to abolish gay-suppoting companies?

people could end up not eating, wearing, working, or living if they found enough things to dislike

They could, but they seem to be selective in what products they boycott due to support of gays. Seems fishy to me.

I would buy the cookies to show my support. I think people make themselves look so stupid to make an issue out of what I see as this non-issue.

Right on, Teresa! We hadn't planned to buy any when we got food, but we made a point to get a package each to show support. We also ended up getting a bag of the minis for Anneke, a second pack for Gideon AND the Handisnacks Oreos. Take that "Million Moms."

It's a total non issue. Oh, Oreo is all for loving everyone? How horrible! Let's boycott them for it! Ridiculous.

It really is just a cookie for most people. However you know how some people will make something out of nothing especially when it comes to gays and controversial things like this.
