Paying Attention

Again, your timing and mine. Last night I was talking to my son's friend. The discussion was about carrying the pain of generations. My family is Belgian going back to the 1300's. I am first generation American. We talked about WWI and WWII. Then there was the advice that my great grandmother told my grandmother who told my mother who told me. Advice about mistrust. Generations of healing.

Very true John. Both my grandfathers were of the firm belief that educating daughters was a waste of valuable resources that could be much better spent on something more useful. My father's dad criticized him severely for educating our sister. "She's just going to get married and raise children! You're wasting your money!"

My dad however didn't want an uneducated woman raising any of his grandchildren. :-D

His only one piece of very bad advice to me was that I should first concentrate on becoming financially comfortable before concentrating on serving God. Since he never followed that advice himself, I ignored it :-D

A careful study of history will multiply a Christian's application of the "FILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT." With Christians all the "body of Christ" (past, present, future Christians...old and new covenant) are family members. We are to learn from others mistakes and sins. Embrace others victories and awakenings. And embrace each other within the marvelous realm of "Co-Creation"...individually and unitedly. Not only is this a written duty and privelege, but the Holy Spirit actually connects us. We actually "feel" the pain of suffering Christians. Sometimes waking up in the night to pray for someone going through a terrible trial. John, this is just a quick look at the subject of your post. There is truly real danger in becoming to independent. In the spiritual dimension their are mistakes to be made for the loner that can be avoided. And there are spiritual heights for those who actually know they can be attained.

Tradition, however, can be a brutal prison. Those guarding tradition have been known to burn those of a fresh spiritual awakening at the stake.

I agree with everything you say except the implication that the Holy Spirit only speaks to Christians. This limits the power of God and is an error from first principals

I approach this from the perspective I have personally been enmeshed in all these years. Within Christianity.

Perhaps there should have been one more "Commandment" Thou shall not put God in a box. Every religion on the planet has done this, The latest is Evangelical

Yes, I do believe Jesus is the "only" way to God. Fifty years involvement with the Holy Spirit and other spirits has taught me to be careful about what warm-fuzzy spirit a person invites home. I have seen some disasters.

As do I. I believe that by his Resurrection he demonstrated his power not only over the limitation of death but of all limitations even those imposed by the mind of man.
