Houston has looked to make some changes over the last few weeks and Dwight Howard is tops on their list. The Rockets made some moves on Thursday night and ended up with three first round draft choices, the team then used those to fill needs in the back-court and added one of the top sleepers in the NBA Draft.
Jeremy Lamb dropped down the draft and Houston made a deal to move up and acquire the young shooting guard with the 12th overall pick. That move will allow the team to make some changes in the back-court without hurting the depth on the team.
With the 16th pick, they selected sleepers Royce White from Iowa State. White has terrific offensive skills for a forward, but his size had some experts believing he would drop into the second round, but the youngster uses his big body to his advantage and reminds some scouts of Charles Barkley.
The team used their last pick in the first round to add Terrance Jones. Jones is a terrific athlete with plenty of upside, but he will need to improve his overall offensive game to become a big time player.
The front office for Houston earned an A- for their picks and the Rockets now have good depth in their back-court and pieces in place to acquire Howard if they choose. Houston could make more moves in free agency this summer and this team will enter the 2012-13 NBA season as a real dark-horse in the Western Conference.
