Was The Today Show's Matt Lauer threatened by his wife saying she'd divorce him if Natalie Morales became the show's new co-anchor? That's what one source is saying. Do you think this could be true?
According to a report from RadarOnline, the drama on the Today Show is akin that of Days of Our Lives--or even worse, The Jersey Shore! It all started with word of Ann Curry's departure.
Now it seems Lauer's wife, Annette Roque, has voiced her displeasure with the shake up at NBC, and she's reportedly threatened Matt that she'll file for divorce if Natalie Morales gets Ann Curry's job.
But wait--aren't Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb the frontrunners for the position? They are. But it seems Natalie Morales has told The Today Show producers she'll quit if she doesn't get Ann Curry's spot. She was quite miffed when she was passed over a few years back in favor of Meredith Vieira.
So what's Matt's wife's beef with Morales? Cue the sappy daytime-drama music. Someone, somewhere (has this person ever really been named?) says Matt Lauer and Natalie Morales had an affair, and that Matt is even the father of one of her children.
"When she heard about Ann getting the boot, the first thing she told Matt was that she didn't want him cozying up any closer to Natalie," a source says. "In fact, Annette drew a line in the sand and said if he pushed show bosses to make Natalie his new co-host, she'd divorce him. Annette knows Matt is the key to the Today franchise and his bosses will put whoever he wants in the co-host chair."
So how much of this do you suppose is real? Every day it's something new. First Hoda has the job. Then Savannah is the new co-anchor. On Monday there was reportedly discussion about Regis Philbin teaming up once again with Kathie Lee Gifford for the fourth hour of The Today Show when Hoda takes Ann Curry's place. And now, of course, Matt Lauer's wife will file for divorce if Natalie Morales gets the job.
All NBC is saying right now is that talk of Natalie being upset over Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie as frontrunners for the co-anchor spot are "totally untrue." And that's great. But what is true?
Probably no one will really know that for sure until the day after Ann Curry leaves. Then everyone will see who sits next to Matt when The Today Show goes live the next morning.
What do you think of all the drama taking place behind the scenes on The Today Show right now? What might the new rumor be tomorrow?
