Academic awards are only given out to the most prestigious individuals. It takes time, effort, skills, and dedication to stand out. It is what everyone should strive to be like. Antigone Kostas began her university studies at Rice University. It was here that she would collect award after academic award. She would put together a prestigious resume of awards from this prestigious university.
Rice University is known for its great scholars. Twelve alumni have been Rhodes Scholar recipients and they have laid claim to over 100 Fulbright Scholars as well. It is in this kind of company that Antigone Kostas was able to stand out. She would eventually graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Science and receive the honor of cum laude. It was an astounding accomplishment to achieve in an environment full of fellow academic standouts.
Leading up to Antigone Kostas’ graduation, she received many other awards including the Rice Scholarship for Academic Excellence, the Jackie Schnell Academic Award, and the Outstanding Freshman Award. Kostas credits her great work ethic and the amazing learning environment at Rice University for her success in earning these honors.
The importance of education cannot be understated and most of us would contest to that statement. But, it is up to us as individuals to pursue that education. It is up to us to follow in the patterns of people like Antigone Kostas in order to better ourselves and to better our society. After obtaining all of these awards and accolades, Antigone would go on to graduate with her MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
That passion for excellence that carried her through Rice has continued and persevered through her entire academic life and career. It is this passion that earned her awards and will continue to earn her recognition in the psychiatric community.
