True Blood's fifth season will be introducing Robert Patrick as Alcide's father in the upcoming ninth episode of the season, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." This character will mean the chance for the show to explore more about the werewolf.

Joe Manganiello talked to TV Guide about what's coming up when they introduce Alcide's father, and it sounds like this is going to be the perfect chance to offer some insight into Alcide: "I just worked with my 'daddy' till six am on Saturday morning and we're having a blast. It's creepy, it's dark and it gives so much back story into why Alcide hates being a werewolf. It is so great!" What could have happened in the past and with his father to cause that?
Alcide's father is going to be a character who used to be "heroic" and "inspiring," but isn't so much anymore since "he's pretty much given up on life." This is going to mean that True Blood season 5 will be exploring Alcide's back story in a way that could reveal plenty to make fans happy. Will this be part of what leads to Sookie and Alcide growing closer? Previews have teased that's coming up, and the episode that introduces Alcide's father is in the latter half of the season. Anything could happen by then, and perhaps Alcide talking to Sookie about this could lead to something.
