By the way, my math is a bit crude perhaps and isn't intended as a realistic projection but more by way of trying to get people to take seriously the implications of continueing on with this path.
From the NOAA site I started with 316 ppm atmospheric CO2 increasing at 0.9 ppm per year in 1960 and 395 ppm increasing at 2.0 ppm per year at 2010. From that information I inferred this simplistic formula: CO2(year + 10) = C02(year) + 20 ppm + 10 years( (2 - 0.9) *(year-2010) / 50 years) per year. I went in steps of ten years:
2010 395.0 +22.2
2020 417.2 +24.4
2030 441.6 +26.6
2040 468.2 +28.8
2050 497.0 +31.0
2060 528.0 +33.2
2070 561.2 +35.4
2080 596.6 +37.6
2090 634.2 +39.8
2100 674.0 +42.0
2110 716.0 +44.2
2120 760.2 +46.4
2130 806.6 +48.6
2140 855.2 +50.8
2150 906.0 +53.0
2160 959.0 +55.2
2170 1014.2 +57.4
2180 1071.6 +59.6
2190 1131.2 +61.8
2200 1193.0
I did this with just a calculator and there might be mistakes in this. Ideally, you'd get a Republican to run the numbers, because they tend to be good with spreadsheets and stuff. But Republicans seem to think it's a big joke. LOL!!!!!!!
What it really is is a deficit of a different kind, perhaps the most serious deficit that humans are bequeating their offspring today. And deficits are no joke. COL (crying out loud).
Running my formula backwards you get
2010 395.0 -20.0
2000 375.0 -17.8
1990 357.2 -16.6
1980 340.6 -13.4
1970 327.2 -11.2
1960 316.0
Yesssss! I can predict the past not too badly.

And that means what?
Mitt Romney as of Thursday (who knows on Monday?): There's enough coal to last for centuries.
True, but keep in mind coal is only part of the fuel. The other part is atmosphere. Question: Is there enough human friendly atmosphere to last for centuries?
Thanks for sharing and submitting to
The Surreal Circus.
But methane might indeed have a big role to play. As permafrost melts, huge amounts of methane will likely be released into the atmosphere. And methane is a much more potent greenhouse gas than CO2.
No such thing as consequences.
That's about as Surreal as it gets.
"Man, with all that C02 all our crops should be really productive, thus allowing many billions more of highly productive government workers to prosper. oops... was that an oxymoron?"
Exactly what I'm talking about. Huge joke. Ha ha ha. LOL!!!!!! Future generations: COL.
It's not the disagreement that infuriates me so much as this tee hee attitude about it.
If you can't take it seriously in terms of physical reality, could you at least take it seriously in terms of political reality?
The political reality being that here we've sat since the 1970s on this climate change scare/concern, and it's still in limbo. The concern hasn't been competently and honestly retired nor is there a critical mass of people sufficient for it to be taken seriously.
And you know what? Limbo is bad for business. You want to invest in Utah tar sands development? Today, it's a huge risk. Why? Who knows which way this political limbo is going to go? Ideally, we'd get political reality into sync with physical reality and get on with our lives. However expensive it would be to face reality, it's even more expensive to continue on in limbo like this.
You can't trust government to end this state of limbo? Then what about a private effort?
Right here in Utah, we've got all the private industry you'd need to settle the physical and political reality once and for all. Climate models are pure hogwash? Utah's Space Dynamics Laboratory can build you the instruments to go beyond modeling earth's energy budget to measuring it. To launch it into earth orbit, we've got ATK.
It'd be expensive but hey, it'd end the political limbo, which would more than pay for the expense.
Having learned that at long last, I'm looking for organizations of progressive people to work with and get behind.
Yes, I am an Orrin Hatch Republican. I hope you can find it within your heart to forgive me.
One mitigating factor before I throw myself upon the mercy of the court:
I did not vote for Rick Santorum.
As contrition, I will inject money into the economy at all levels. Basically, I think it comes down to the economy. A good economy favors Obama.
It is our patriotic duty to shop.
