I so really don't have the time for a post, but have that need to get it out of my system.
What happened to common sense?
Seriously. Where did it go?
Over and over in the news we see articles from the mundane to the extreme that had common sense kicked in, wouldn't have been an issue even newsworthy.
Below are a few examples covering the spectrum.
1) Sunburned Children. http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/kids-come-home-school-bad-sunburns-responsible-172200498.html
Now really? You see that there are children so badly burned that comments are made, but because the law states NO medication without a written note you do nothing.
A) Um, ever heard about INDOORS? Common sense that prolonged sun is dangerous?
I mean it's a sunburn. All kids end up with one, but usually because it didn't look like they received too much until later, when the full effects come out. The ABOVE was not the case. So how are adults hired to teach and yes, while in their care, monitor other aspects (safety) allowed to shrug and say I didn't know what to do? Seems wrong.
*Anything over the counter with a note from a parent should be permissible JIMHO.*
2) Mike McQuery http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2060621/Penn-State-scandal-Mike-McQuery-tells-players-career-vigil-held-victims.html
I'm not going to linger long on this because frankly it sickens me beyond comprehension.
A grown man hears "flesh slapping flesh" and enters the shower room to see a boy of about 10 against a wall with an adult male behind him who "appears" being sodomized.
Common sense would tell most STOP the act-ASAP-then report the act.
Not so.
The witness, had to call his daddy to ask what he should do.
Mr. McQuery? If that had been your two-year old daughter who you heard flesh slapping flesh, what would you have done then? Still run home to ask your daddy? I wouldn't be concerned with your career buddy, I'd be worried what your daughter is going to think of her heroic (ewww just threw up in my mouth) father having to run home to ask his daddy what to do.
3) Personal- Taking things down a notch.
The neighborhood I live in is right next to one of the more popular elementary schools. Needless to say the neighborhood is chock full of children. Now both neighbors on each side of me, aren't kid friendly. They don't want a car parked (technically on city property) at the edge of their yard during parties. Put tape around it's edges during Halloween when our neighborhood zings to life with trick-or-treaters as we’ve been deemed the 'safe' neighborhood and are flooded with children from all over town.
Common sense would dictate if you don't like kids…don't live in a neighborhood next to a school.
Ya know?
If common sense were used by everyone, everyday…where could the world go?
