East City, Peterborough, Ontario - The Nicholls Oval Neighbourhood Association is thrilled to announce the Kawartha Rotary Club's contribution of $15,000 towards the splash pad. The neighbourhood group is extremely excited to see a community partner like Kawartha Rotary come on board and are very happy it will be called "Rotary Splash Pad" says fundraising chair Bethany Kaune.
"The club's mandate syncs perfectly with the neighbourhood group's purpose: to promote community development, and children's health and well being†says Mrs. Kaune.
"The Kawartha Rotary Club stepped up to this project by recognizing the need for a splash pad in this part of East City and it will be accessible from the Rotary Trail for all to enjoy," said fundraiser David Gillespie.
The generous donation moved the project forward and along with the financial commitment from the City of Peterborough, the project is on track for installation in Spring 2013.
“For more than 30 years now, The City’s Recreation Division has supported community-based partnerships for parkland development. Partnerships, like the one we are celebrating today, make facilities and playgrounds like Nicholls Oval Park, a great success. The children of this area will greatly benefit from the results of our community partnerships†says Ellen Stewart of the City of Peterborough.
Mrs. Kaune states, “We will continue to fundraise until November 30th to enhance the features of the splash pad and to improve the park in general". The public will be able to view water features and designs by attending "Movie Nights In The Park" this summer. Recommendations and input on design from children and adults are welcome at the movie nights.
