We have been pretty darn busy around the Sassy Cats' yard. The vegetable garden and five of the six flower beds have been planted. The weather has been so hot and dry that I have been watering hundreds of plants every other day. The first photo is of the seedlings I started in Jiffy pellets at the end of March. Sadly, of the 12 Gypsy peppers, only one seed sprouted. The cabbage-type plants in the middle are ornamental kale. There is also some sweet peas meant for container growing. I've never had luck with sweet peas, so I'll be happy to see a couple of flowers. Another new item to me - Disco Belle Hibiscus. So far, they're not looking very happy.
I was pleased with what I purchased at Kmart for flowers this year, picking out most of what I needed for bedding plants there. Luv those Wave Petunias!
The kitties were completely exhausted after a full day of vegetable garden planting. Rocky ran the tiller and Beau raked the soil smooth. Sassy decided where we would plant what, and we all had a paw in the planting.
Next is a photo of the garden last Saturday, three weeks after planting. The kitties were hard at work patrolling for those vermin rabbits, squirrels, birds, chipmunks and mice. The big plants toward the front are potatoes.
We planted:
I gave a neighbor six beefsteak tomato plants and six mixed peppers, and she gave me the Amish paste and Roma tomato plants. The red carrots and shallots are also new to me, we'll see how that all goes. For the last month, I had been searching for the sweet potato plants named "Beauregard" with no luck. I found them today at Walmart! They did not have them the last couple of times I looked through their plants, today they had three flats of them. I bought a pack of nine plants. I don't know where I'm going to squeeze them in, but they will be planted tomorrow.
Hoping for some rain soon! But not too much. haha! Watch for further updates broadcast at irregular intervals from the Sassy Cats' backyard. =^o^= |

I got wave petunias this year too. I needed something that is pretty hardy. I don't have much of a green thumb.
Good luck with all your plantythings!
The kitties look happy and content too.... meow.
I love all the flowers you bought and the variety of vegetables sounds wonderful. Good thing you have Mr. Rocky and Mr. Beau to help out, that looks like a lot of work.
Thank you so much for sharing with Animal & Nature photos, videos and posts.
Hi kitties!
That does sound like a nearly impossible area to garden. I wish I had a couple of those oak trees here.
My tomatoes are done for the season, got one more batch to make sauce with - btw my Romas and the Celebrety 100 did the best for me.
Were the sweet potatoes a special request by Beau? :-)
My cats will never have to do such work, because plants commit suicide when left in my care. Seriously. They last a few days and then... *Sigh*
