Of A Surreal Species

Horrific rumblings of a conjugated past

Apples fall like anvils from laughing trees

Pause too long and first becomes the last

Musket shots carried on a Byzantine breeze

The ides of March, march everyday

Corrugated cats screech from ancient tombs

Pinstriped saints, with iconoclasts lay

Fetched from moors of Shakespearean gloom

New world drawn by a hellfire coach

Of two-legged wolves, four-legged kings

Crusades, conquests, charges; a child’s reproach

Cautiously counting the coins Judas brings

To hold Yorick’s skull while it still chatters

Or toppled heads of miscegenated creatures

East or West, death sometimes matters

Steadfast treatises of tantalized features

Extinction of Pangaea – circumcised men

To one of a more Biblical tract

Broken religions – incapable to bend

Clever, wanton journeys, from Hell and back

I couldn't respond in any verse that would echo the amazing journey of words you write here... I'm not sure what it is of me that would deserve such a dedication, but it is much appreciated. A wonderful poem of reality, heaven, hell and the hypocrisy of man...ahh...maybe that's why I got the nod on the dedication... :)

Not the hypocrisy my friend, but your own poem, Heaven, warranted your inclusion here. I went looking yesterday for time-traveling poets, reading more than several recent works. Yours, Richard's & Libramoon's (who I'm not familiar with but sent a friend request to) were the ones pointing towards time-travel (and the knowledge gained from it) the most.

Well, it's only 91 here, but the humidity if off the charts. It's that damned humidity that makes it miserable here. With my heart issues, I'd be dead by now if it wasn't for the A/C and fans we have. Went to Los Angeles for 2 weeks once - the temps were mid 90's and above, but it was dry and I easily tolerated it.

I'll check out your "Homecoming..." forthwith. :-)

Hip has recovered, although it looks now my nerve damage is permanent and chronic. I go back to the neurologist this Friday. I have filed for disability and am accepting the fact that wheelchairs, walkers and oxycontin are now elements of my day-to-day living.

So sorry to hear that. My dad also had a hip replacement after breaking his femur near the head where it articulates with the acetabulum. He never fully recovered either.

Wait a minute, he was about the age I am now when that happened! I have to be very careful.
