The surprising Pacquiao vs. Bradley fight results have become a huge source of speculation that "a fix was in" when it came to how judges scored the fight. Now it appears an investigation will occur to see if Manny was in fact robbed of this decision.
The news comes via Yahoo! Sports, where it's being reported that fight promoter Bob Arum (pictured) is upset over the split decision which saw Pac-man suffer his first defeat in over 7 years. It also saw a major upset for the other guy he promotes, and a championship victory. However, a Pacquiao investigation now looms as Arum recently commented:
"If this was a subjective view that each of [the judges] honestly held, OK. I would still disagree, but then we're off the hook in terms of there being no conspiracy. But there needs to be an independent investigation because it strains credulity that an event everybody saw as so one-sided one way all three judges saw it as close. It strains credulity."
One of the judges who gave the fight to Timothy Bradley said afterwords, "If this were 'American Idol', without a doubt, Manny Pacquiao would have won," referring to Pac-man's widespread popularity. However, Ford was one of the two judges who gave the decision 115-113 to Bradley, rather than the WBO Welterweight champion.
Before any rematch takes place, it looks like Bob Arum is going to make sure there's an investigation into the Pacquiao vs. Bradley results. Arum promotes both fighters and wholeheartedly believed the better fighter won. The problem is two of the judges agreed that the better fighter won, and felt it was Timothy Bradley.
Most fans agree with Arum though, that Pacquiao was robbed Saturday night in Las Vegas. It should be interesting to see what any investigation turns up, and how long it takes to get a rematch set up between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley.
