Depending on what decade you are from, you either remember Tommy Chong from the comedy duo Cheech and Chong or from That '70's Show. In each show, he pretty much played the same character, however it was incredibly toned down for the latter. Now, at 74 years old, Chong has announced that he is suffering from prostate cancer and you'll never guess how he is treating it!
While giving an interview to CNN about decriminalizing marijuana, he made the announcement saying, "I've got prostate cancer, and I'm treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis, so (legalizing marijuana) means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested."
He goes on to say that he began having prostate issues while he was drug free and is convinced that his past drug use had no impact on his condition saying, "Cannabis is a cure."
Legalizing marijuana has been a hot debate for years and is currently legal for medical use in only 17 states (and Washington DC), but there are strict guidelines in place. People who swear by it claim it can subside symptoms from a number of different illnesses. Still, there are those who are vehemently fighting the use, saying that it can lead to harder drug use. Obviously, there is a vast difference between using marijuana medicinally and recreationally. Each has there share of proponents and opponents, fighting for their beliefs.
What do you think about this? Are you surprised that Tommy Chong is using hemp oil to help ease his symptoms? How do you feel about the use of medicinal marijuana?
