Their Royal Highnesses the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry attended the Saturday wedding of Emily McCorquodale, the niece of the late Princess Diana of Wales. Ms. McCorquodale is the eldest daughter of Princess Diana's older sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and her husband Neil McCorquodale, a farmer and former officer with the Coldstream Guards. The groom is her longtime boyfriend James Hutt. Public appearances by the Spencer side of Princes William and Harry's family are rather rare—and this is understandable, considering the media firestorm that constantly surrounded the late Princess of Wales and the fact that many still blame the paparazzi obsession for her death in August 1997.
Earl Spencer, uncle of the bride and of the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, attended the wedding with his third wife, Karen Gordon, and his daughter Lady Kitty Spencer. They have not made any public appearances since the Cambridges' wedding in April 2011, obviously preferring to keep a low profile. The Earl's other two daughters and his son were not in attendance. This may be due to the expected media attention that occurs when the Cambridges and Prince Harry are present.
The Duchess of Cambridge (formerly Kate Middleton) wore a lovely floral Jenny Packham silk dress, covered by a pale gray coat, for the occasion at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Mary in Stoke Rochford, Lincs. It has been a busy couple of weeks for the Cambridges and for Prince Harry due to military duties, as well as the diamond jubilee celebrations. The Duke of Cambridge qualified for Royal Air Force captain last week, and Prince Harry began pre-deployment training at RAF Wattisham, in Suffolk. All of this followed the internationally celebrated diamond jubilee extravaganza from June 2nd through June 5th, to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen's sixty years on the British throne.
