Tonight is Angela's company show...then dance will be over for a few weeks. Yea!!!! Last night we didn't get out until after 10 pm, and I know tonight will be another late one.
Okay, so what are celebrating today? WEll, I know there is an important one....
1). D-Day: On this day in 1944, the Allied forces landed on Normandy, along the northern coast of France, to open their long-awaited second front against the Germans. This massive operation, which involved more than 1.7 million troops from America alone, proved to be the turning point for the Allied victory in World II. http://www.dday.org/ is the website for the D-day memorial. When D-day was over, the Allied Forces had suffered nearly 10,000 casualties; more than 4,000 were dead. Please remember all the soldiers killed on this date....they did it to secure freedom for many nations. American soldiers were not the only ones killed on this date....please remember the soldiers killed from all our allied forces (Great Britian, Canada, Belgium, Australia, Netherlands, Polland, France, Norway, Greece, etc...).
2). Drive-in Movie Day: Ah, there aren't many drive-in movie theaters left today. That's all I ever went to as a kid. I was in 6th grade before I actually went to a sit down theater....hard to believe, I know. On this day in 1933, eager motorists parked their cars on the grounds of Park-In Theaters, the first-ever drive-in movie theater, located on Crescent Boulevard in Camden, New Jersey. I hope to be able to take my kids to the one here this summer. Every time we plan to go, something happens and we can't (or it's not open).
3). National Yo-yo Day: National Yo-Yo Day was established as June 6th in honor of the birthday of Donald F. Duncan Sr, who manufactured the "Duncan Yo-Yo" in the early 1900's. He was the man who made yo-yos popular in the United States. I think most kids had a Duncan Yo-yo growing up....I know my brothers and I all did. I use to be able to do some tricks, but I doubt if I could now. LOL.
4). National Gardening Exercise Day:  Gardening Exercise Day gives us an opportunity to go out and burn off calories and have fun doing it, and it is intended to recognize the important physical health benefits of gardening. My gardening is an exercise if futility....lol. Everything I plant gets eaten by something other than ME. I think I'm feeding the birds, the insects, and the little critters.
Go out and thank a WWII vet today, as we are losing more and more each year. I only have 1 left in my family.
