Alex McCord and her husband, Simon van Kempen, starred in Real Housewives of New York for the first four seasons of the franchise. After being let go from the show, the couple was left having to start their lives completely over.

In a new interview with Celebuzz, McCord explains, "Being on the show is such a double-edged sword. These shows are meant to cover your real life; but the show actually swallows up your real life."
Many may think once someone stars in a reality show, they are pretty much set for life. However, as McCord and her husband have learned, the exact opposite is often the case.
"When there is no show, you have to completely start over. Your former life is gone ... and reality TV is seen as a liability for some companies."
McCord also dished on a recent happening that she was not prepared for. "My oldest son, who is 8, Googled himself for the first time in his computer science class. It's a whole new conversation I never thought I'd have."
For now, Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen are busy working on their linen collection, Aluxe Hotel and Home. McCord has even become Rumorfix's correspondent for Real Housewives of New York. It looks as though starting over didn't turn out too bad for this reality couple.
