Once Upon a Time season 1 ended with magic coming to Storybrooke. Everyone remembers their fairy tale selves, couples are reunited, and Regina, for now, is unseated from her position of power. However, that could all change with magic around again.
OUaT Season 2 Spoilers
Consulting producer Jane Espenson told TVLine, "We're picking up right where we left off, but where we left off was in the middle of a veer in a different direction. Season 2 will be different than Season 1." With magic now in Storybrooke, there are many ways this can go, and that includes giving Regina some hope that her low place in town may not be forever. After the way season 1 ended, it's hard to imagine how they could just skip ahead in time and rely on conversations and the like to explain what happened next. The series had been building up to that ending all season, and with the season 2 premiere, fans will get to see what happens right after magic returned to these characters' lives.
Not only that, but it sounds like fans should get ready for some more fairy tale characters in Once Upon a Time season 2, as Espenson did say, "I would hope Ariel would join the show. She's one we've definitely talked about. There are a whole lot of princesses we haven't seen — like Aurora, Rapunzel and Jasmine. And it's hard to look at that list without going, 'Well, what about Goldilocks?!' And they'd all be good, because what we do is take them and go, 'Well, the thing you never knew about Little Miss Muffet is...'" Any of those characters would be fun to see on the ABC drama, and considering how successful the show was in the first season, they do now have the time to explore such roles. It wouldn't be hard to bring these characters in and see where they fit in, especially in the new world with magic in Storybrooke and even to see their back stories in fairy tale land before the curse if they so choose. In a series like this, they can easily find a way to do just that.
