First an explanation for the non-rural folks: Where there are homes with no sewer system, people have septic tanks or, heaven forbid, holding tanks, which must periodically be pumped out into large tank trucks which haul to a specified treatment plant.
Today we followed a tanker from Luxemburg Sanitation. On the back was painted,
"Yesterday's Meals on Wheels".

I live in a rural area and I have a septic system....but under Title 5 I had to create a big leaching field under my driveway.
When I lived in the Alaskan bush communities of St. Mary's, Kotlik and Emmonnik we dumped our "honey bucket" into the Yukon River. Later when I lived in a much bigger Inuit community of Bethel, a "honey bucket" truck would come once a week and pick up the 5 gallon containers. Where did they put it? In the Kuskikwim River. I believe all that is changed now and I imagine the Public Health Service created "holding tanks".
Thanks, Bob.
John, "Dilution is the solution to pollution" is a scary mindset, huh?
Thanks, Jennifer.
I don't think our waterways should be used as as a dump station though.
Thanks, Marilyn.
Thanks, Michelle.
