Kathie Lee Gifford asked Martin Short an embarrassing and painful question about his dead wife today. Short's wife, Nancy, died in 2010. Shouldn't a talk show host be more prepared than that?!
Gifford and co-host, Hoda Kotb, drink wine each morning on the set of the Today show. That is public knowledge and often talked about. Hoda has even referred to wine as a "breakfast food" in a tweet reply to Andy Cohen on May 2 where Cohen says "you know there's no such thing as a 'breakfast wine'!?!?". To which Hoda replied, "then what am i drinking right now?"
Did Gifford get too drunk and slip up today during the interview with Martin Short? Should she be reprimanded by the network?
Not only did she make this gaffe while live on the air where she entered into a series of questions about how long Short has been married (in the present tense) and then saying that the two are still madly in love and asking why. Short handled it with grace by not pointing out the fact that his wife is dead.
To add insult to injury, the drunken TV host took to Twitter to apologize. To an account that DOES NOT EVEN BELONG TO MARTIN SHORT!

She really shouldn't be on TV any more.
and the drunk gag, is just a running gag they do on the show,
the glass stays at the same level the whole show. they bareley sip the wine.
How much are the sipping before the show? ;)
If she can't blame her incompetence on drunkenness then....alzheimers? dimensia?
because I had no clue his wife had passed,
and im a fan of his,
You know why this bothers me? I feel that we are accepting more and more mediocracy in areas where its important to be better. For example, would you accept this level of professionalism from your surgeon? From a restaurant preparing your dinner? You order a steak medium and it comes out well-done -- you send it back right? I think Kathie Lee should probably be "sent back."
Why is it wrong?! There's social drinking and then there's drinking on the job. I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone in the secular world who thinks drinking on the job is OK.
Andy Cohen has a late night talk show where they drink and play drinking games. They talk about shows on the Bravo network....gossip and giving their opinions...no interviewing as people aren't coming on this show to plug anything. They are coming on to be silly, drink and gossip.
Kathie Lee Gifford is on a morning talk show, first of all. And secondly, she's being paid millions of dollars to interview people about what they are plugging. I really don't think she should have even been asking about his wife. He was there plugging his new film.
And, if that's not all, I am pretty sure they are briefed before the show about their guests, what to ask, what's off limits, etc. I am just speculating as to whether this show does that, but it seems to me to be a reasonable assumption.
And last but not least, this is the first time she's made this exact kind of mistake!
Do you think it's OK to drink alcohol and then interview someone about their personal life when they are there plugging a movie?
Trust me, they don't have to ask about the spouse. I watched Regis Philbin purposely bypass any personal questions when he had certain guests on his morning talk show.
I just think a TV host's job can't really be that difficult so if you can't even keep the information about your guests straight, you really have problems.
