The Pusha T, Lil Wayne beef has really taken center stage in hip hop. However, it was not the only rap feud this past week, as another one has been going on between rappers Pete Rock and Lupe Fiasco, over a brand new song.
With Pusha and Wayne exchanging tweets, lyrics, and diss tracks, the rap world has been heavily focused on what's going to happen next. Meanwhile, a rapper from the old school and one from the new school have been going at it. The feud involves rapper and producer Pete Rock and modern-day rap star Lupe Fiasco.
So why are PR and Lupe feuding? Well this one isn't necessarily about a diss song or lyric that started things off, but instead some anger by Pete Rock over the beat Lupe used on his new song called, "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)." The song features a "reinterpretation of Pete Rock's beat for 'T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You).'" That song was made famous back in the day by PR and his rapping cohort, CL Smooth, and was dedicated to a fallen member of Heavy D and the Boyz, named Trouble T-Roy.
According to Hip Hop DX, when Lupe's brand new song went out on the net earlier this week, Pete got on Twitter to announce he felt "violated" and that his instrumental "should be left alone." However, Lupe came back saying he had done what was necessary to clear the sample, so he was surprised at the anger. At one point, it appeared the two had patched things up, but then Lupe did a Shade 45 interview with Sway Calloway, saying otherwise. It then came out that Pete was irritated he wasn't involved with the new project, as he had made that a condition for Lupe using his beat.
So unlike the Pusha T and Lil Wayne beef, these two rap stars haven't gone at it on any diss songs. It's mostly been interview soundbytes, article comments, and Twitter tweets here or there. With that in mind, it's unlikely there will be any songs recorded either way. Lupe probably has too much respect for Pete Rock to do that, and they both have other projects to worry about. As for Pusha and Weezy, it's going to be interesting to see how many more days, weeks, or months their feud extends for!
