Google Sure has been busy lately. They've officially purchased Motorola Mobility. The Internet company snapped up the consumer electronics company yesterday in a move that adds one more acquisition to their ever-growing list of businesses. Yet another reason for those who passed on buying Google stock in their earlier days to be kicking themselves at this point.
In August 2011, Google announced plans to buy the company for $12.5 billion. Who wishes they had that just lying around? Though regulatory hurdles had to be cleared first, Google kept their eye on the prize, and back in February the acquisition of Motorola Mobility was approved.
Unfortunately, both companies still had to wait for China to approve the deal before Google could officially close, and call the smartphone making company their very own. Although on a larger scale, apparently good things do come to those who wait.
What does this mean for Android devices like the Motorola Droid line? Does Google have a plan to keep these devices fresh? Android fanatics are surely waiting for Google to launch the next best thing, as far as smartphones are concerned. Will they finally be about to beat out the upcoming iPhone 5 release date, and dethrone Apple as the reigning king of smartphones?
What do you think of Google buying Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion? Do you think this will lead to an improvement of the Motorola Droid line?
