The following is a true story about someone I know (though someone I most definitely do not consider to be my "friends".....or even remote acquaintances).........
This is the short version of how this gruesome story played out several months ago................................................
A girl......whom we shall refer to as "Girl".......and her boyfriend (whom we shall call "Boyfriend") were celebrating New Year's Eve by attempting to overdose on alcohol......
There was a knock on the door and, when Girl opened it, there stood her ex-husband and his new wife.............
The ex-husband and his wife wanted to go out and celebrate too and had come by to ask Girl if she would babysit their (Girl & her ex-husband) kids that night, which he had because it was his weekend to have them.......
Girl said she could not watch them because she was way too drunk.......
Some other stuff happened right after that, but I do not know what it was, but an argument broke out......which rapidly escalated to the point of Girl wildly slapping and hitting her ex-husband........
The ex-husband freaked out at being punched in the face by his ex-wife and pushed her to the floor and sat on her, trying to stop her from hitting and scratching him......
Meanwhile.......Boyfriend went into the kitchen and grabbed a six-inch knife and proceeded to plunge it up to its hilt into the ex-husband's back......
Soon, blood was everywhere and the ex-husband's wife was attempting to break the land-speed record driving her profusely-bleeding husband to the hospital.....
Well.....to make a long story short (too late), Boyfriend was arrested......the ex-husband lived and eventually recovered......and, by some incredible miracle, Girl did not lose custody of her kids.........
Finally........to my legal questions....................
Boyfriend has not come to trial yet, but he is stating that he stabbed Girl's ex-husband in self-defense..........
How does one stab another person in the back and claim they did it in self-defense??
Several years ago, Boyfriend stabbed someone else "in self-defense" and got six years in prison for it...........
And now, he and Girl are under the impression that he will get nothing more than a light slap on the wrist for stabbing Girl's ex-husband........uh........"in self-defense"......
What do you think will eventually happen??
Will Boyfriend be found innocent and walk??
Will he be put on probation and walk??
Will he soon be spending more than six years in prison??
Will Girl lose custody of her kids??
And, oh......by the way......
.........Girl and Boyfriend just announced their engagement......

Hmmmmmmm, an engagement? Doesn't sound like a very good idea to me!
What a mess!!!
another point, is since he had the kid that weekend, she was NOT under obligation to "babysit" for free while he had the kid.
...Just to show up with the kid and think that the ex HAS to babysit is stupid.
ex sitting on ex wife, ex hubby is the invader. WHat an a hole the ex hubby be.
...I know of a case involving the ex husband of ,my llast gf.
...He broke into his ex gf's apartment, and there was an ex-parte order of protection, he was shot, and crippled.
...Not only was ex hubby arrested and charged, but the current bf, was given his pistol back.
....I think the bf will walk and the ex hubby may face criminal charges.
Once that happened, then anything done in defense of ex wife, is allowable as protection.
It was the ex wife's home..
ex hubby may end up with charges.
...He did plan on something happening, and was trying to start something.
...But it backfired all in his face. I bet that he could lose visiting rights now.
Well of course they did ..........................
If you go to someone's house and want them to watch your kids and they are drunk and say no, then you leave and find someone else and be thankful for their honesty, if you can't find someone else have a nice party with the kids instead.
And second: Child Services makes the determination as to whether or not Girl will keep her kids. the Prosecutor's office has nothing to do with it - and it sounds like no charges have been filed against Girl, so it's most likely not a consideration. The person who committed the stabbing is in jail and not in the home at this time, thus the immediate danger has been removed from the home. I'm sure Girl was evaluated by Child Services and are most likely under their 18-month surveillance period.
So even if all charges are dismissed, it's most likely not over with Child Services.
This is America, the "Nut House".
The final outcome will be something like this:
The Girl and her boyfriend will hire a lawyer who will sue the liquor company, claiming that it is the company who is actually responsible for enticing them to drink to drunkeness with all their slick advertising demonstrating the joy of boozing it up.
A jury of their "peers" will agree and award them 50 billion dollars which will allow them to buy off the ex-husband to admit that he had a handgun pointed at the head of the girl at the time he was stabbed.
The girl will show her appreciation to the ex-husband by remarrying him and moving his girl friend in with the two of them and they will live as a happy threesome while hiring the Boyfriend's sisters to be house servants and nannies to the children.
The Boyfriend, who has now been married 12 times and employes Dr. Phill to be his full time, personal shrink and live in counselor, will will buy a controlling interest in Facebook and commit suicide when Bill Gates refuses to sell him the property next to his where he wants to build a 500 million home next door to Gate's castle.
Dr. Phil will marry the Boyfriend's ex-12th wife, who just happens to be the sister of the Girl whose ex-husband he stabbed, after divorcing his present wife. Dr. Phil then becomes enamoured with the Girl, whom he meets through his new wife, and hires a "hit" man to kill his current wife so that he can keep all the money that once belonged to the Boyfriend.
When the Girl understands what Dr.Phil has done, she divorces her husband, the one who was stabbed in the beginning, and marries Dr. Phil. The newly weds purchase the nation of Tahiti and live in extravigance and debauchery the rest of their lives after inviting Barach Obama to come and manage the country for them.
This is the only possible outcome to such an "American" dream couple.
Thank you mary v.. At least I guess I should be saying "thank you" but when I read your comment, I am not sure it is positive or negative.:) If you meant it in a derogatory way, then I suppose I ought to offer some advice on clarification of your communication.
On third thought however, I guess I ought to take personal stock and try to figure out why I am having such a difficult time recognizing your intent. It must be that old self image problem of mine rising to the surface again.
The last time I wrestled with that inner monster, I committed suicide and some stupid doctor brought me back from death's door only to recognize too late that I really did not want to be brought back.
It seems that some people just can't take no for an answer and feel they have to make other people's decisions for them. But, I finally got to be OK with it all when I met up with a man who trains horses for a living and he told me that all I needed to do was tame the beast within me and retrain it to be happy and joyful about life.
Now that made more sense to me than anything I had ever heard so I hired him to put me through his training program and he did such a wonderful job till now all I do is spend every day eating hay and chasing after the young filly who is lodged in the stall next to mine. We are having the time of our lives.
Hope you are too.
Sorry Berf.
The only thing serious about this post is the serious mental retardation of the characters it describes.........LOL
Mary, I was just kidding not serious in the least. No apology needed. I knew your intent but just felt like pulling your leg a bit. I did however, think twice afterward and did not want Berf to think I was disrespecting the post. It is a serious deficiency in human nature that is being discussed and deserves to be addressed as such. My spoof was intended to point out what I see as a trend in our whole society of going nuts, (self included).
Berf, I always appreciate your thoughts and posts. Thanks for adding much to the Gather experience.
I am curious to see how things turn out thou. I don't think the woman would loose her kids. Because she stated she was to drunk to watch the child plus it was not her weekend. She was being responsible.
