Uber-tan Patricia Krentcil is tired of the media frenzy, so she defended herself and her tanning practices on the set of Today. She insists she has done nothing wrong, and it's time for all the haters to just "step off."
Krentcil is charged with child endangerment for allegedly putting her 5-year-old daughter, Anna, in a tanning bed, resulting in a nasty case of sunburn. The famed tanning mom, however, claims there is absolutely no truth to the allegations. According to her, the sunburn was from the natural rays of the sun and not from a salon. "She never went in," Krentcil said. "It was beautiful out, and they went into the kiddie pool. She's a redhead. She got sunburnt."
Patricia, however, doesn't seem so concerned about the charges against her. Her main beef with public opinion is the criticism of her own bronzed skin. "Look in the mirror and look at yourself instead of looking at me," she said. "I'm sorry I'm tan. I like to be tan. It just feels good." Then, she added that her critics "need to step off and step away."
Perhaps the media has gone a bit too far in its crusade against Patricia Krentcil, pronouncing its own sentence of guilt before a judge has the opportunity to examine the facts of the case. If she is guilty of child endangerment, the focus should be on Anna's safety, not Krentcil's tan. If she is innocent, she doesn't deserve being branded a tanorexic fool.
