I was deliberately hesitating because unlike almost every theist, I do not view the soul as immortal, so to me at death the person ceases to exist.

Death followed by resurrection is what amounts to passing from one room into another. In that other room Helen Keller shall be able to see and hear.

So to me Helen Keller is still in passage. I expect that one day she will get into that "other room" and I expect to meet her there when I too enter that "other room".

I had hesitated because my belief is very uncomfortable to most persons. The belief originated from my considering the situation logically and being purely analytical rather than instinctive.

The instinctive approach produced the conclusion that the soul is immortal but I couldn't resolve the contradictions that appeared when I applied reason and logic.

Wow! There was a episode with Betty Buckley on WENN on AMC that said the same thing... that the people still love us they just go in another room, where we cannot go yet. They still exist, still love us but are not with us.

This is so true...

You are not alone in this Carol .... there are many who 'need' to be comforted & exposed to greater wisdoms & eternal clarities ... there is always more to death than meets the eye since we are mortals & do not yet have perspective in certain areas of 'being' that are really there ... we just do not know being in other realities ...

Interesting indeed. My belief is very similar, except that I call this room we are in the "5 Sense Energy realm", and the room we go into is the realm of God, i.e. in and beyond the Zero Point Energy Field, or realm. It's simply a state of being; because we are spirit beings in this realm and the next/previous/eternal realms - ALL ONE.

To over state the simple & pretend to comprehend the depth is absurd at best ... call death whatever we like & put in into whatever 'terms' we can relate to ... simply being we will all experience soon enough & one way or another. Death is not the enemy ...

Sometimes I wonder if 'all those other reams & state of beings' are not all there at the same time ... maybe that is why we have so many perspectives, perceptions, & beliefs going on all at once ...
