By now Robert Pattinson fans all over the world have no doubt seen the naked, kinky photos of the Twilight heart-throb that accompanied his interview in the new issue of French Premiere Magazine. What few people know however, is that the Premiere photo shoot, which lasted a gruelling 13 hours, was thematically based on the films of RPattz's Cosmopolis director, David Cronenberg. And even Kristen Stewart probably doesn't know that the sadomasochistic psychosexual nature of most of the photos were Rob's idea. Yikes.
Pattinson reportedly surprised (shocked?) the photographers by coming up with the idea of a photographic tribute to Cronenberg's opus. Rob probably considers the role of Eric Packer a kind of "passport for after Twilight" as well as his "entry to the adult age." Whatever his reasons, Rob managed to persuade the photographer Eliot Lee Hazel and Premiere's editors to use Cronenberg's earlier films like Videodrome and Scanners as inspiration. Several of the photos were also a homage to Cronenberg's Dead Ringers, a bizarre film based on the bizarre true story of twin gynecologists whose obsessive incestuous relationship finally spirals into madness and murder/suicide. Hence the pics featuring twin images of Rob.
Interestingly, Robert Pattinson was reportedly dissatisfied with the first attempts. He was "sorry that they weren't more daring, wanting to push all the limits with this shoot." Whether moving the shoot to a "gloomy hotel in downtown L.A." and adding "a special effect makeup artist [and] a pregnant lady" were also Rob's ideas is unknown. But it's certainly possible. The finished products were about as far away from gentlemanly vampire, Edward Cullen, as Rob could get.

Enjoy.
