An obese Ohio boy was taken from his mom when Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services felt that his mom was not properly caring for him. When he was removed from his home, the nine-year-old weighed in at 218 pounds. He was taken to his uncle's home in Columbus, Ohio.
Many people are taking issue with this saying that the county was wrong. They weren't. If this child had been being starved, no one would have batted an eye at him being taken from his mother. She was over-feeding him and leading him down a very dangerous path. Being severely obese is just as dangerous as being far too thin.
"It is the right thing to do at this time," said Judge David Stucki of the county's juvenile court system. "The best interest of the child has been protected and supported. The system worked."
Now, when this child was sent back to his mom, he had gotten down to 166 pounds. This is still far too much for a child of his age, but it was a fantastic start to getting this child's health back. Since he has been with mom, he is gaining again and is now at 173 pounds. This mother has obviously not learned her lesson and seems to not care much about her child's health.
If mom does not properly care for the obese Ohio boy's health and weight, he can be removed again after a 90-day time period. All anyone can do is hope that mom starts to truly parent her son and put his health first.
