No, I live in Florida. It's sad. I would believe it is happening all over. When people make cuts they must consider how many people will complain. They probably will cut the arts programs in school before the football team....

I live in North Carolina but I think all states will eventually do this. Now I am an advocate of people with disabilities because I worked in the system for a long time and I have seen several different sides of the issue. I also billed for these services to Medicaid. During my ten years in this field I saw several things that I disagreed with. CAP services billing and not providing the appropriate services. CAP here stands for Community Alternative Programs. We billed for Supported Employment, Supported Living, Personal Care & Respite to name a few. I saw organizations try to get way too many hours for clients... This one company I worked for with a client had a 9 year old boy away from home for almost twelve hours a day during the summer months just so she could squeeze that extra amount of $ out of it... and the family of the child was no better. I worked with him and I had to occupy him for that amount of time. Keeping a kid away from home for 12 hours a day is a hard thing to do. He was in a out of school program for a month (I accompanied him) from 8 am to 2pm and after that I had to come up with something for him to do. His family never sent him anything to eat so after school was over I always had to feed him and then come up with something to do for 2 more hours before going to his house. ... I can see where services like this are abused... I have several more stories, this is just an example of how companies billing Medicaid and the families of disabled children and adults are milking the system. Please don't take this the wrong way. Most families are not like that but I have run into my share of them that are.
