The feud that erupted between Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine over Voice contestant Tony Luca has Cee Lo Green seeing red. According to the show's most soulful performer, the behavior of his two fellow judges is anything but professional.
It all started over Luca's performance of 99 Problems. It seems Christina took offense to some of the song's lyrics, thinking the former Mousketeer was taking a jab at her. While he certainly could have, since she's been less than complimentary to him most of the time, there's no reason to believe it was his intent. He was just singing the song as written.
After Christina dressed Luca down on television, Levine felt compelled to jump to his fellow artist's defense. One thing led to another and before long a real feud broke out between Levine and Aguilera.
To be fair, however, it isn't the first time the two colleagues have quarreled. They often disagree over contestants, music and on-stage performances. Still, it was shocking to watch them go at it and no one came out on top.
According to Green, his fellow musicians need to clean up their act. "It's getting a little old and little inconvenient for everyone," he noted. "It's not something we should carry over into season three," Cee Lo adds. "Name calling is not the answer. Bitterness and rudeness are not the answer."
While Cee Lo Green admits no one has formally asked his opinion, he's willing to give it anyway. He thinks the judges should always remain professional and address everything from that point of view.
He's right. It's time for the judges to act like grownups and not children. Otherwise, they hardly set an example for the singers they're supposed to mentor. However, it seems like Aguilera has been spoiling for a fight since the show started. She often makes off-handed slurs and rude comments about her fellow judges. It wasn't that long ago she implied Blake Shelton wasn't an artist.
Aguilera is arrogant and rude to both her colleagues and the contestants. That hardly makes her role-model material. Maybe the powers-that-be at The Voice need to have a little talk with the diva and straighten her out. Otherwise, fans may tune out for the show's upcoming third season.
