The farmers I know never kill the animals themselves. They hire someone with the training and experience to do it according to the accepted procedure.
Yup, there is no kosher pigs that I know of.
The film clip was utterly Frightening!!!! Thank you for bringing awareness to this issue. Hope you have a great rest of your week! Hope you have a Happy Mother's Day!
I've been on pig farms and in a slaughterhouse and have never witnessed something like this. Most breeders understand that the sweetest meat comes from animals raised humanely. But they are meat... Not pets. It's ironic that we have bleeding hearts for animals we are going to carve up into pork chops. These farm hands were cruel by our standards, but you face a wild pig in the bush, it won't be worrying if you're comfy before it tears you in half.
I raised chickens once. Had a romantic notion of how " cute" they'd be, until I saw they're heartless toward each other and merciless to the weak among them. I had no problem chopping off their heads after that.
David is right...no such think as kosher pork. :)
Btw... Pigs are stunned with electricity... Cattle are knocked out with a sledgehammer or a power-actuated tool like a Hilti gun that knocks them out. They are strung up upside down and they stick the jugular. You want the heart beating so it will pump out all the blood from the carcass. Pass the meatballs, please!
Thanks for posting to Gathers Luminous Writers and Artists.
In MA, Drumlin farm asks if you want a turkey they will kill for you. That is a quality bird. However, we have always declined. Yes, don't name the animals that will be on your table.
But the animal industry is so much worse than in the 50s.

Yours is an elitist argument...preached from the head of a dinner table that lacks nothing. I wonder if you were a handful of rice between you and death if you would grumble so.
