Is David Frum correct? It should be noted that David Frum is not a crazy socialist- he is in fact a former GW Bush administration speech writer.

His case is that Mitt Romney has allowed himself to be shoved into a marginal right wing position on several issues during the primary fight with the Tea Party ninnies, and now has no realistic way to get back where he needs to be to capture independent voters.

In fact, Romney is the candidate that is best able to capture independents. He has proven over his time as Governor that he will keep his hands off the independent decisions of social policy, and the voters representatives, and their decisions will be respected. Meanwhile, his background in business means he will steer more toward fiscally sound policy. All a President can do is veto or accept what the people legislate. He will be less likely than President Obama to use the executive pen to make the country accept micro management of the lives of citizens. His business background will also know how to allow only reasonable regulation, leaving business free enough to prosper again. He is a good fit for independents.

This is a recent CBS article that cites a recent Politico poll showing Romney winning independents over Obama by ten points!

That's because of the mass exodus of moderate Republicans from the Republican far right circus of today, I'd bet. Many of those people in prior years would have been registered Republicans anyway.
Certainly enough to make ten points difference.....

Whatever Ron, I was refuting the statement that he can't get I ndependents. Wherever they came from, he is getting 10% more than Obama, so how does Chris figure that he can't get independents?

I think Romney's just cynical past all belief. He knows where each of those kow-tows put him, but he's counting on the time between now and November, telling himself he won't have to do this any more once the primaries are over. Then he'll just forget all about all this stuff.
