Depression affects everyone. It can strike teenagers just as easily. Depression impacts how people think, act, and feel as well as their general health. Depression in teens is becoming more common in our high stress society as roughly 5% of the teen population suffers from some form of depression.
People can experience two types of depression. Major depression is when you feel down or sad most of the time. With bipolar disorder, you feel depressed and down sometimes but at other times you can feel excited and wild. These are all warning signs of depression and medical attention must be found as soon as possible before the depression gets worse.
Most teens do not get the help they need. When left untreated, depression can worsen. A teen with proper treatment can get better. The majority of patients can see significant progress fast with the right counseling. It's important to be able to tell if your teen is suffering from some type of depression.
Signs Of Depression
Feelings of shame for no reason, crying and feeling drained or agitated all the time are signs of depression. Sleep patterns can change resulting in sleeping long hours or not getting enough sleep. Eating habits change as the person will start to eat more or start losing their desire for eat.
The teen can feel that no good ever happens or that nothing good will ever happen again. Life seems unimportant. Negative emotions will become common place. A loss of feelings can come in to play.
The things you like to do or bring you happiness don't do it for you anymore. Every day normal activities with your friends or family are no longer meaningful. Instead of doing these things, you now feel like being alone and not being hassled. You also may feel tired, insignificant, lose your temper or overreact for no reason.
These are many signs of depression. If you or someone closes to have these feelings of depression on a regular basis, seek help. There are options out there like counseling .at least tells someone close that you are depressed and need help.
