If you read my post the other day, you know that I am taking part in the $1.50 a day challenge through bzzagent.com and have pledged to eat and drink no more than $1.50 worth each day. If you missed the post, you can find it HERE
Â
Here is my day 1 run down:
1 cup of milk with my Carnation Instant breakfast--.4835
13.5 oz of Dr. Pepper -- .15
1 oz potato salad and 1 oz macaroni salad-- .125
1 cup of tea --.03
hard boiled egg, 1/2 oz of shredded cheddar cheese and 1 cup of milk --- .2046
1 cup of Kool-Aid --.03
Â
These brought my total to $1.0231 for the day.
I had planned on eating half a banana this evening but didn't get to it. I did have a hard time, as I expected, not drinking my Dr. Pepper all day. Since I had some money left to spend for the day I chose to drink another 13.5 oz of Dr. Pepper.
This made my final total for the day $1.1731 for the day.
It's probably a good thing that I left myself some lee-way to eat more tomorrow. It's sewing club day and I already have lunch planned as a hard boiled egg, banana, chocolate pudding, potato salad, macaroni salad and Dr. Pepper.
Now.....let me say....1 oz of potato salad and 1 oz of macaroni salad is just a teeny tiny amount! I didn't go back for more at lunch time, but have made it 2 oz for tomorrow lunch. 2 oz is still not much at all either!
Steve found milk, believe it or not, for just .50 when he went to the store on Friday! We had already got me some at $1 per half gallon, but he bought me 4 half gallons just for me this week at the cheaper price. This means just .0625 per cup....and means I can probably get 2 cups in per day!
They also had the potato salads and such on sale for $1 for 1 lb. I figured the price per oz., which is why I was trying to eat just 1 oz. Sheesh, he went overboard trying to buy that for me, buying 5 lbs of each LOL
He also bought me 2 dozen eggs on sale for $1 per dozen. This made me happy too making each egg just .0833 each. Normal price is $1.94 per dozen so I didn't even have eggs on my list as something I thought I would eat.
I also realize that what you read above is not near enough food for the day. I did get pretty hungry before supper. This is pretty easy for me so far because I don't eat as much as I should to start with.
I promise, tomorrow's post won't be so long :)

I like this challenge and I often cook something really frugal. Not because I need to, but because I want to. Eating frugal does not mean that you need to eat only junk.
I'll follow your challenge and good luck for you :-)
By the way, did you also count the water you needed for the tea or just the tea bag? ;-P
These prices aren't full retail by far. I've known about the challenge to watch for sales and used coupons as well in lots of cases.
I'm already underweight so if I went with retail price I would really barely be eating anything at all.
Eggs are normally $1.94 per dozen so I was so glad to see them go on sale for just $1 so I could add them in for protein.
and milk for .50 a half gallon?? That was just a blessing!
I know that if it weren't for sales and coupons I wouldn't be eating near as well as I am during the challenge. I do have beans and rice both in the cabinet that I got FREE from government commodities. I considered putting those in, but didn't. I also have canned soup and pastas in the cabinet from commodities as well.
There are income guidelines. I can no longer get them because we are way above the level....and even my mom can't get them now due to being $10 over the income limit with her SS raise.
If you start to feel like you Cannot make it, just think about that Large Bowl of Ice-Cream at the end of your Challenge! :)
For the Kool-Aid I actually figured the cost of the sugar, which was harder because on the bag it's servings by teaspoons! LOL
I know here eggs are 2.99 so I'm trying to figure if the cost of eggs is different where you are then were Michigan is.
was that including dinner as well as lunch and breakfast ?
you did a great job I think
